The First Private Art Museum in India Is Inaugurated
2011
Established in the aftermath of the Indian Art Boom, the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art (KNMA) is the first private museum of modern and contemporary art in India, with premises in Noida and Delhi. Housing the collection of its founding patron, Kiran Nadar, the museum is inclined towards curatorial, pedagogic, and public engagement, and offers a mechanism that makes art more accessible and available to the lay audience. Through partnerships, collaborations, and cultural diplomacy, the KNMA is involved in exhibitions and shows not just limited to India but also at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Centre Pompidou in Paris, Tate Modern in London, Documenta in Athens and Kassel, and the Venice Biennale.
