An academic, journalist and critic, Aveek Sen is known for his writing on Indian art and culture.

After completing his master’s in English literature as a Rhodes Scholar at the University of Oxford, UK, Sen continued his academic career as a Gulbenkian Research Fellow in European history and culture at Wolfson College and as a lecturer in English at St. Hilda's College, both in Oxford. In 1999, he returned to India and joined The Telegraph in Calcutta (now Kolkata), and has worked at the newspaper ever since.

A frequent writer on the works of photographer Dayanita Singh, he co-authored the publication House of Love (2011) with her. He has also written with artists such as Roni Horn, Moyra Davey and Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster. In 2009, he was awarded the Infinity Award for Writing on Photography by the International Center of Photography, New York, USA.

Sen passed away in Kolkata in 2021.
