GK Vale

Established in 1910, GK Vale is a prominent photo studio located on MG Road, Bengaluru. Initially named Madras Photo Stores, it was renamed after its founder, Gangadhar Kumara Vale. The studio began with a specialisation in studio photography, focussing on portraits for special events and passport photos. Vale was also, however, known to have occasionally utilised studio equipment to conduct shoots and take group photographs on location.

GK Vale is believed to have been the first studio to introduce colour photography to the region in the 1970s. Over 110-years old at the time of writing, it is now run by the fourth generation of the family. In addition to the MG Road studio, there are over thirty other branches of GK Vale & Company located across South India.
