Nature Morte

Nature Morte A gallery based in New Delhi, Nature Morte promotes photography, installations and conceptual art by contemporary Indian artists moving into the international market. Owned by co-directors Peter Nagy and Aparajita Jain, the gallery was originally founded in the East Village of New York in 1982 but closed by 1988. In 1997, Nagy introduced Nature Morte in New Delhi. Its first exhibition that year, titled Nirguna Saguna, featured works by Rekha Rodwittiya, Nataraj Sharma and Vivan Sundaram, among others. Nature Morte’s primary gallery is at Dhan Mill, Chhatarpur, in south Delhi, where major exhibitions are held. A secondary space at Vasant Vihar is used for smaller exhibitions. The gallery has also operated branches in Kolkata (2006–09), the Oberoi Gurgaon Hotel (2011–14) and Berlin (2008–14). It was one of the first Indian commercial galleries to participate in international art fairs such as the Armory Show, New York; Fiac Paris; Art Basel, Miami and Hong Kong; and Frieze, London and New York. It has also collaborated with the Sanskriti Foundation, the Khoj International Artists Association and the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi and Mumbai. Today, the gallery represents contemporary artists including Subodh Gupta, Jitish Kallat, Pushpamala N, Anita Dube, Bharti Kher and Asim Waqif.   Bibliography
