The First Edition of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale

2012

The first Kochi-Muziris Biennale is held as an initiative of the Kochi Biennale Foundation with support from the Government of Kerala. The Biennale is to be led by a curatorial director, always an artist, appointed by a selection committee of artists, scholars, gallerists, and administrators, which designs the concept note and commissions an international network of contemporary artists.

Held every two years, the event will be a cultural landmark in the field of contemporary art, placing India on the map of international projects. Over the years, the biennale will also become a significant tourist attraction, and its allied projects unveiled over different locations in the city will revitalise the urban environment of the Fort Kochi area.
